Wet Plate Studio day
We spent two and a half hours doing plates at Rayko this weekend. We have a project in mind for future photos and these are some shots to help us refine our process. Audrey invented a new process of Collodion transfer, we call it the Audreytype. This is the last photo of the set on this page. The Audreytype is created with the normal wet plate transfer process and after drying, we simply slide the plate into water, remove the collodion picture and slide it onto dark paper. We set the image behind glass after covering it in the tree sap.

These are on metal:

These three are on glass:

This is the Audreytype placed behind glass:

Who's that kid you're holding? It looks like Ezekiel but it can't be; he's too big!

Lovely stuff.

Let me know if you're shooting on a weekend evening in the next couple of months. I'll be up at Dickens Fair in period kit, and it'd be a damned good excuse to ride BART dressed like a freak.

It is totally and utterly weird to see modern clothing and composition with glass plate technique. But there are some that are pretty darn awesome! :)

I don't suppose you've considered using this technique with some of your bondage photos. I have a feeling the rope textures would do really well in Audreytype.

Once Jennie and I get our special costumes together for our wedding (in march) might we commission you to do a couple wet plate photographs of us?

We're going for turn of the century-ish... which will look quite cool with the collodion technology.

collodion emulsion transfer. i love it. that's typically done with polaroid peel-apart prints. you can float the image right off the paper and move it a more interesting medium.
